The treatment of choice for deep venous thrombosis (DVT) and pulmonary embolism (PE) is anticoagulant therapy. Inferior vena cava (IVC) filters have been developed to prevent PE in patients with venous thromboembolism who have a contraindication to anticoagulation or in patients considered to be at very high for PE. Also known as a "Greenfield filter". I have one of those implanted in me.

I recently had a knee replaced, and as a complication I developed a clot. I also had a Greenfield IVC filter placed later. My IVC is ferromagnetic, so I wonder if any more MRI tests are not to be done on me. I don't want this darned filter to move one bit.
What exactly is the risk? Some sites say it's OK, and others say no- don't have the MRI. I am confused.
