Hi Sue,
Welcome! Sorry to hear what you've been going through, (and that it happened on your holidays to boot!)
, but great to have you here. There are a lot of super supportive people here, and many with similar situations (i.e. casts, swelling, etc.). Check through the Lounge and you'll find some similar experiences.
As for me, (my story is in the DVT Diary from Vancouver), I didn't have the major swelling or cast situation, but I was hobbling around. I kept walking every day. In the beginning, I couldn't go very far, but just kept at it, which I think really helped. (It helps promote your blood's circulation in your legs which is very helpful--from my understanding, of course I'm not a Dr.--and reduces pain, etc.) In your situation, you have to contend with your broken ankle too, which must be very challenging. Ouch!
I too, just had an INR of 1.6. It took them over a week to get the results to me, and rather than calling me to have me retest, they had me drive all the way to my GP's (over an hour away--where I used to live) to tell me in person to retest.
They didn't adjust my dose because they felt it might be an influction, since I've stabilized finally in the last couple of months. Well, that was Wed., today's Sat. and I've heard nothing. Will have to call on Mon. I can only assume that it's okay. The strange thing, is that yesterday I had some symptoms of OVER dosing, not under dosing... i.e. petechia(?)--a patch of teeny red/purple dots on my DVT leg (top of leg--my DVT is lower leg), and some bruising. Would seem that my INR should be high, not low. I'm confused!
Anyhoo, I will get it sorted out!
How are you feeling today? Have you been redosed to get your INR up? How's your ankle?
Try to have a great weekend, and HANG IN THERE!! We're here for you!
