| Hello to everyone, My name is Lindsay and I am a guy .I went into the ER Thursday night with my left calf swollen a little and in moderate pain. After they did a ultrasound the Dr informed me I had a DVT in my calf and promptly admited me into the hospital.I spent 24 hrs in the hospital and started the lovenox injection's and kumaden pills and was released Friday evening.Today is my first full day at home and I stumbled onto this sight and have already found some great info so a big thanks to this sight and everone who post's here.I will be doing a follow up with the DR to get the INR results on Tuesday.I have been a smoker for around 20 years but I am quitting.I have smoked my last cig and will not be buying anymore as it was really my only factor for developing a DVT.My biggest fear is that will not be able to play basketball again.I could go out and shoot by myself but the jumping around that comes from basketball does not seem like a cool idea.Anyways I will post more info as I get it. | |

| Hey Lindsay (the guy...) LOL
Welcome to LADVT as I am happy that you found us and glad that you found useful info here, it saddens me to hear that somebody else has joined up in the ranks of the afflicted by DVT. It may presently look or feel like you won't play basket ball but don't despair, I say you'll be back on the court rubbing elbows, shooting hoops in a few months. If you have ANY questions, please ask, we will do our best to answer them... Remember, we've been there, we've felt how you feel, your not just a textbook example to us... We have/had DVT, we know how it is. Hang in there!!!!

| Hey Lindsay, Sorry to hear about your DVT but welcome aboard! As Dero said, you'll be back at basketball soon enough I bet.... just take it easy and get that leg better first!!! It just happened and you still have to be careful of PE (pulmonary embolism) for a bit... I had mine (after leg DVT) the following week. (My story is DVT Diary Vancouver in the Lounge). I also just started a group on Twitter: www.twitter.com/DVTSupportGroup and have a library of resource links: http://tinyurl.com/myratt. Congrats on quitting smoking, by the way!!!... that is a hard one for sure. Way to go! Hang in there and look forward to chatting anytime, Brenda | |

| Hey Lindsey,
My name can also be a bit confusing - it's Jesse - and yup, I'm also a guy. Anyway, I could relate to your post. I'm 32 and had a DVT last December. This website has been wonderful...it's just such a scary thing that it helps to gather as much info as possible. Anyway, I, too, am a basketball player and I wanted to let you know that I have played a few times and it's been fine. I have a history of sprained ankles and a few dislocated fingers...so I played very gently. But, that being said, I also run 4 miles every other day and I totally bit it a few months ago. I sprained an ankle - and hurt my pride (how the heck do you sprain your ankle running? In a straight line, nonetheless?) but I was quite relieved to see that there were no further implications. I iced it aggressively and I monitored it closely. I did bleed for a while, but eventually everything clotted up fine. I was most relieved to see that I can still take a hard hit and won't be too worse for the wear. Definitely take it slow, play easy, and see how it goes. I may or may not be able to come off coumadin (I find out in January) but a little basketball now and again seems to be fine. Even just shooting around a bit feels great. And just so you know, the swelling in your calf and thigh will go down. It takes a few weeks, but you'll be up and moving again. Best wishes with your recovery!

| Man you wanna talk ankle sprains??? I played for my high school team and I had my own cooler full of ice packs on the side lines, waiting for me... Hahaha. I can now sprain an ankle just by WALKING on a side walk, yeah trip up on the line...
Glad you all found the site, as I usually say, it sucks we don't meet under better circumstances but HEH, that's life... Anything you have questions about, we'll be more then happy to answer them, if we don't know the answer, we will do our best to find the answers.
