Coming off Warfarin (Coumadin) Empty
PostSubject: Coming off Warfarin (Coumadin)   Coming off Warfarin (Coumadin) Icon_minitimeWed Sep 16, 2009 2:36 am

So it's been 8 1/2 month since being diagnosed with DVT and on Warfarin. But I have a little good news, I am coming off it starting tomorrow. What am I feeling? ~ Well a little nervious that it may come back. But I am also excited because I can go get massage therapy, Chiro or physio to help my leg pain (I think it's post, but maybe also a pinched nerve)who knows. Also exercising won't be too scary because if I trip and fall, I don't have to worry about internal bleeding. I'm also going to be getting some blood work done to see as to why I may of got the DVT in the first place (I still think it's because of Prolong seating).

So that' all I have to say for now, I will keep you all posted for symptoms coming off of it. Oh yeah and one more thing, I will toast to all the support I have had in the last 8 1/2 months since finding this site and others as I sip my first drink of the year. Umm what to have, maybe a nice glass of wine Very Happy

Well take care and have have a good week!

PostSubject: Facing the same feelings as you...   Coming off Warfarin (Coumadin) Icon_minitimeFri Oct 09, 2009 10:57 pm

I can relate to your feelings of both excitement and anxiety about getting off of Coumadin. I had a DVT in December and I had a hemorrage (a bleeding kidney) by April. I was hospitalized and it was not much fun. Talk about being between a rock and a hard place. I run frequently and I did trip and fall and sprain an ankle. I was quite scared, but I was relieved to see that I can still take a hard fall and that my body did not develop another clot. At the same time, I get little pains here and there in the leg where my DVT was and I'm always afraid that I'm developing another clot. I have the Factor V Leiden, but the doctor still hopes to have me off coumadin this January. I guess I'll just have to take things one day at a time...try not to worry too much, but be aware of what my body is doing. Anyway, I wish you the best as you come off of coumadin. I know it's not easy...but there are many people pulling for you. We'll hope this was just more of a one time thing!

June 09 was when I was taken off the anticoags, for me it was a welcome phase, I could go back to mountain biking and not worry about getting a branch brush me and/or cut me... Even at work, I still was walking around with my 3 feet safety buffer zone, now, I bump into things and people tell me, HEH your bleeding, my response, "so?

The way I look at it is that the next time I clot, I'm a lifer on anticoags, so NOW, I'm enjoying life w/o anticoags...
If you can, just enjoy it.

Hello everyone,

So I've been off the Coumadin since Sept. And (knock on wood) so far so good. Now I get to see a Rhematologist in two weeks, cuz one of my blood test's (ANA) came back positive. So we will see what he says about my condition. But now I have to concentrate on preventing another DVT.

I started to exercise (signed up for the YMCA and a personal trainer). So now it's commitment, have to lose weight and get healthier. I walk as much as I can and where ever I can as much as possible. I get the odd soreness in my leg, calf area sometimes, but mostly in my inner knee and ankle which both swell once in awhile. So who knows why I get this, just got told to tough it out and ice it once in awhile.

Well I will let you all know if anything else changes, i'm off on vacation in a few weeks, packed my compression stockings and my Low Molecule heparin shots. I am prepared.

Have a good week and don't forget on Wednesday to remember all the troops who risk their lives each and everyday to make ours better. Thanks to you all (past and prestent).

Take care cat
