The topic of having a clot removed to prevent PTS (Post Thrombotic Syndrome) has always been well discussed by patients and other patients( I know we have had that discussion here numerous times) patients and their Dr. and also by Dr. and other Dr..
Most Hematologists, have the opinion that it's better to leave the clot in, it's not worth endangering the patient during and post-op. They say that the end results is the same, you will be on anticoagulants for life either way. study


There is presently a study(in the USA) called "ATTRACT" that has this for it's rationale

Study Rationale
The ATTRACT Trial seeks to resolve a major controversy among physicians regarding the best way to treat patients with proximal DVT (large blood clots of the leg). read the whole article
