Hiya Tika!! OK, it's been almost seven months since you have been diagnosed, I would say that most exercises won't dislodge the clot from your leg. The only danger I see is for you to cut yourself if you were to start an extreme sport, but I tend to doubt that(correct me if I'm wrong). For the Hot Tub, as long as the jet is not directly on your leg, meaning again, danger of dislodging your clot by the pressure of the jet, I don't think a steam room can be dangerous, unless you fall and crack open your head and have a concussion and or an cerebral embolism. Those are the things you have to constantly ask yourself, -what are the chances of cutting myself and what if I can't control the bleeding, GET YOURSELF TO AN HOSPITAL. -If I fall and hit my head and feel dizzy, GET YOURSELF TO AN HOSPITAL. -I have a clot in my leg, what do I have to do so I don't dislodge it from it's present position. Other then that, follow your dosage and have your INR done at the recomended period. Aside from that, how is life? When are you seing Dr. Lee next? Take care and let us know what happens at your appt.

Hello Dero & Gang, Well I get to see the Hematologist this coming Friday. I'm both excited and scared, but we will see what happens and hopefully it will be good news and I can soon get off this Coumadin? Do they gradually take you off of it? and I guess I will be getting an Ultrasound done to make sure the clot is gone (I will insist it). I'm also meeting up with Brenda Blackburn this Wednesday and some others who she found on her site to meet and talk. She sounds like a very insperation person and I can't wait to meet her and the others. I've sure we will all have lots to talk about. So that's all for me for now, will let you know next week how the visit was with Dr. Lee Take care, Valerie

| Hi Valerie, Welcome aboard! See you've been connecting with Dero (Denis) and the forum here. Great stuff! This is a super place with lots of information. The people here ebb and flow based on their condition often, but come back and hang out and check in. Lots of great people here! Well, between your chats here, my resource links (on the DVT Support Group site), and talking with Agnes, hopefully you got most of those questions answered! If not, we'll try to help you find the answers. Look forward to meeting you tomorrow at our first group meetup! Woohooo! See you then! | Hello everyone, Just a little update and a qq/inquiry! So I went to see Dr. Lee and was sent off to get an Ultra-sound done to see if there has been any improvements since the last one. I still have residue in the distal superficial femeral vein down to the popitel. I'm still on Coumadin and will go off it when my GP or Dr say it's ok to do so. As for exercising I have been trying to: Treadmill, Bike, Epiliptal, swimming and walking. I find the Bike, Walking and swimming the best. But I have been exeriencing still a very sore left leg. My knee area on the inside along with the calf and ankle hurts also swells. This is even when I wear the compression stockings (don't wear them when I swim). Also I get sore in my buttocks area down the back of the leg. The knee area hurts alot, I've tried icing, elevating, heat, resting, massaging. Nothing helps is hurts alot alot alot. I don't know what I can due, I'm trying to exercise to loss weight so I get less pressure on the leg, but I can't cuz I'm friggen sore. I have had this clot going on my 9th month and still I feel pain. This is a little different unlike when I got the clot it felt like a charley horse (calf cramp), this feeling feels like my knee area is twisted or sprained! Has anyone felt this? Will this get better in time? Is doing exercise while in pain ok? Should I ask for an x-ray and or a MRI. Just want a few suggestions or ideas. Thanks for listening. Will keep you all posted what other events happen in my DVT life. |

Hi Tika, Good to hear from you, I saw that you guys on the Wet Coast had a good meeting, I read the minutes, GOOD WORK!!!!! As for the pain you are feeling, have you been limping or have you been walking normally since your clot? The reason I'm asking is that sometimes because of an injury we limp and work muscles that usually are not used , hence they scream because of that and they hurt... I have had that happen many times, if I strain an ankle or whatever, I overcompensate with other muscles and THEY let me know that THEY don't like the extra work... The other thing it could be is the treadmill, not knowing how you run, are you a heavy runner could be the shock/stress from that, try not using the treadmill for a bit. Running is a high impact excercise for the knees, the body weight being slammed on that one joint as oppose to walking (barely any impact, biking a rotational movement of the leg, no impact and swimming no impact whatsoever. Or you may have strained your gastronimius (a series of three muscles starting in your calf and works upwards to just below your knee) Or... So many options. Not being a doctor I can just tell you, it can be any of these and if it persists, have it checked out. Good luck.

Hi Dero, Yeah, running I can't do and won't. I just walk on the treadmill, sometimes speed walk. But haven't done too much of that lately. So I have just walked for about 1-1.5 hours (this is what I'm trying to do for exercise). I find that it's good but I notice the first 15-20 min, my leg starts to get sore, then about 30-40 I do start to limp. I do try and rest at a half-way point and stretch. Then I continue on and then later on in the day is when my leg starts to get sore. But I think your right that it feels like the muscles and tendons. So who knows, as for going on the bike and swimming it feels good. I feel the flow of blood in my leg, but a few times in the same area where the pain is when I walk I feel it in both swimming and biking. It's very fustrating cause I'm trying to help my body get healthy, but the pain keeps me from being more active. Anyway will keep you posted, have a good day!
